Opened in 1859 on land Sultan Abdülmecid gave to the Protestant powers, it holds about 5,000 burials and memorials from the 17th century on. Stones moved from Pera's lost 'Graveyard of the Franks' line the walls, and there is a walled Armenian Protestant section.
