The espadrille shop of Madrid since 1845, now run by the fifth generation on Calle de Toledo: hand-sewn alpargatas in about thirty colours and every size, sold by the tens of thousands of pairs a year. In spring the queue goes out of the door as madrileños stock up for summer.
