Spain's first anthropology museum, opened by Alfonso XII in 1875 as the private 'Museo Anatómico' of the doctor Pedro González Velasco, who spent his savings on the building. Its cabinet-of-curiosities past survives next to the Africa, America and Asia rooms, a five-minute walk from Atocha station.
