The royal fortress at the edge of the Bois de Vincennes: its 52-metre 14th-century keep was the tallest fortified tower in Europe, and its Sainte-Chapelle, begun in 1379 and finished in 1552, is a showpiece of Flamboyant Gothic. Charles V moved into the keep in the 1360s.
