From the street it looks like a building courtyard, but behind 29 Rue de Babylone lies the 7,000 m2 former orchard of the Daughters of Charity, opened to the public in 1977: lawns, a vine arbour, apple and fruit trees and a children's vegetable plot. Left Bank families picnic here; shoppers at the Bon Marché two blocks away have no idea.
