Get from A to B

Prague's public transport is one integrated system, PID (Pražská integrovaná doprava): three metro lines (A green, B yellow, C red; about 65 km), day tram routes 1-26 and 31 plus night and historic lines, buses, trolleybuses, S-trains (Esko), Vltava ferries and the Petřín funicular, all on the same tickets. The metro lines meet in a triangle at Muzeum (A/C), Můstek (A/B) and Florenc (B/C) under Wenceslas Square and the New Town; line D is under construction. Trams are the best way around the centre and at night, when nine night lines meet at Lazarská. The airport has no rail link yet: trolleybus 59 (which replaced bus 119 in March 2024) runs to metro A at Nádraží Veleslavín, and the Airport Express (AE) bus runs to the main station.

  Nemocnice Motol - Nádraží Veleslavín (airport trolleybus 59) - Dejvická - Hradčanská - Malostranská (Malá Strana, castle) - Staroměstská (Old Town) - Můstek - Muzeum - Náměstí Míru - Jiřího z Poděbrad (Vinohrady) - Flora - Želivského - Depo Hostivař. 17 stations, 30-32 min end to end. Náměstí Míru is the EU's deepest station (53 m) with its longest escalator (87 m).

• MetroMetro line B (yellow)

  Černý Most - Českomoravská - Palmovka - Křižíkova (Karlín) - Florenc - Náměstí Republiky - Můstek - Národní třída - Karlovo náměstí - Anděl (Smíchov) - Smíchovské nádraží - Zličín. 24 stations, 25.6 km, the longest line.

  Letňany - Kobylisy - Nádraží Holešovice - Vltavská - Florenc - Hlavní nádraží (main station) - Muzeum - I. P. Pavlova - Vyšehrad - Pankrác - Háje. 20 stations. Line D (from Náměstí Míru south, via Pankrác) is under construction.

  144 km network; route 23 is run with old unmodernised Tatra trams. Validate paper tickets immediately after boarding.

  Nine night lines substitute for the metro; all meet at Lazarská in the centre, where you can change between any routes within 5 minutes.

  Historic cars from the Střešovice depot; PID tickets (including Lítačka) are NOT valid. Line 41 runs Vozovna Střešovice (Public Transport Museum) - Výstaviště (boarding stop Planetárium Praha) every 90 minutes; single CZK 150, reduced CZK 100 (children to 15, students to 26, over-65s). Line 42 is a hop-on hop-off loop through the historic centre every 30 minutes; 24-hour ticket CZK 450, reduced CZK 300 (children 4-15, students to 26, over-65s), under 3 free, bought from the conductor (cash or card) or at tourist information centres, and also valid on line 41 and bus K. Nostalgic line 23 (T3 trams) takes normal PID tickets.

• BusCity buses and trolleybuses

  DPP and other operators run buses inside PID. Trolleybus 59 (opened 6 March 2024, replacing bus 119) links the airport with metro A at Nádraží Veleslavín; bus 100 also serves the airport with a metro connection. Long-distance coaches use Florenc (served by FlixBus), Černý Most and Zličín.

  Trolleybus 59 from Terminals 1 and 2 to Nádraží Veleslavín (about 15 min), then metro A to the centre (about 15 min). Line 59 replaced the old bus 119 on 6 March 2024, so 'bus 119' in older guides now means trolleybus 59.

  Airport Express (AE), a special bus between Praha hlavní nádraží (stops on Wilsonova street in front of the historic station building) and Terminals 1 and 2, about 40 minutes; DPP describes it as a round-the-clock link, every 20-30 min and hourly at night. Towards the city it does not stop at Terminal 2. At the main station connect to metro C, long-distance trains and trams.

  Bus 100 runs from Zličín (metro B) to the airport in 16 minutes, every 10-20 minutes. Bus 191 from Anděl (metro B) takes 51 minutes.

  Uber operates in Prague; some taxi drivers are known for dishonest fares, so agree on a metered or app-based ride.

Good to know

• Validate a paper ticket as soon as you board a tram or bus, or before entering the metro's paid area; tickets bought by contactless card on board or in the app are already valid. Plain-clothes inspectors check: riding without a valid ticket costs CZK 2,000, or CZK 1,200 if paid on the spot.
• Buy in the PID Lítačka app: since January 2026 paper and SMS tickets carry a surcharge (e.g. 90 min CZK 46 in the app vs 50 on paper).
• For the airport take trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín (it replaced bus 119 in 2024) or the AE bus to the main station (CZK 200; PID tickets not valid).
• The Petřín funicular (reopened 22 September 2026) does not accept 30- or 90-minute tickets; use a 24-hour or 3-day pass or buy a funicular ticket.
• Children up to 14 and people 65+ ride free with proof of age.
• After midnight the metro stops; night trams 91-99 run every 30 min and all meet at Lazarská.
• Taxis: use regulated stands or an app, as some drivers target tourists with dishonest fares.
