The fountain on Schwarzenbergplatz switched on in Franz Joseph's presence on 24 October 1873 to celebrate the completion of the First Mountain Spring Water Main. Its design follows the calendar: 365 small jets around the basin for the days of the year, 12 high jets for the months, 24 low ones for the hours and 30 in the central island for the days of the month. It was turned into an illuminated fountain in 1906.
