A closed, almost private-feeling square inside the Hofburg complex, framed on three sides by the Redoutensaal wing, the court library (Prunksaal) and the Augustinian wing, with the Palais Pallavicini opposite. It was named in 1786 after Joseph II, whose equestrian statue by Franz Anton Zauner was unveiled here in 1807; before that it was called Bibliotheksplatz.
