One of Vienna's oldest churches, first recorded in the 12th century on the steep bank of a former Danube arm, hence 'am Gestade' (on the shore): for centuries the church of fishermen and boatmen. The Gothic building has a seven-sided tower and holds the relics of Vienna's patron saint Clemens Maria Hofbauer.
