The last surviving Biedermeier cemetery in Vienna, opened in 1784 as one of the communal cemeteries Joseph II ordered outside the Linienwall, and closed when the Central Cemetery opened in 1874. Mozart was buried here on 6 December 1791 in a grave whose exact place is unknown; a memorial marks the presumed spot. It is now a city park and a refuge of the endangered European hamster.
