Built by Fellner & Helmer in 1889 as the bourgeois counterpart to the Burgtheater, with 830 seats one of the largest theatres in the German-speaking world. Under director Jan Philipp Gloger since 2025 it stages contemporary and re-read drama, talks and discussions.
