The city's ceremonial square above the harbour, once Tophane Meydanı for the cannon kept here. Its centrepiece is Hüseyin Gezer's six-metre National Rise (Atatürk) monument, unveiled on 19 May 1965, and the terrace gives the classic view over the old harbour to the Beydağları.
