The walled core of Attaleia, founded by Attalos II of Pergamon in the 2nd century BC: narrow lanes running down to the harbour, stone-and-timber houses with wooden bay windows (cumba) and walled gardens. Protected as a conservation area since 1972, it now mixes restored mansions turned into guesthouses and cafés with houses still lived in.

Good to know
- Most houses show few windows on the ground floor and an overhanging cumba upstairs; the life of the house faced the garden, not the street (tr.wikipedia).
- In summer walk it early morning or late afternoon; April-June and September-October are the least crowded months (Yeni Ankara, 2026).
- Wear proper shoes: the lanes are cobbled and steep towards the harbour.
