A massive Byzantine structure built into the Blachernae walls, up to 23 m high and 11-20 m thick, with twelve three-storey chambers; four Byzantine emperors were imprisoned here. Its twin towers are identified as the Tower of Isaac II Angelos and the Tower of Anemas.
