Lisbon's big popular concert hall opened on 14 August 1890 under an iron dome 25 metres in radius, ordered from Germany; it was built to hold more than 4,000 people and the king himself became a shareholder. Opera stars from Tito Schipa to Joan Sutherland sang here, and today it hosts the concerts Lisboetas grow up with.

- Look up at the iron dome and, outside, at the three-storey façade by Cesare Lanz.
- The street outside, Portas de Santo Antão, is lined with tourist seafood touts: eat elsewhere.
