A Carthusian monastery founded in 1349 by Archbishop Giovanni Visconti, where Petrarch stayed in 1357; some cloisters and the church with its rich frescoes remain. Entry is free thanks to Touring Club Italiano volunteers. It sits on the city's north-west edge, so almost no visitors find it.
