The little pink cabaret on the north side of Montmartre, open since the 19th century and once called the Cabaret des Assassins. Under 'Pere Frede' it became the haunt of Picasso, who painted it in 1905, Apollinaire and Modigliani. It still holds simple evenings of French chanson and poetry: Brassens and Nougaro sung around the tables, Prevert recited, Montmartre stories between songs. No big show, more a candlelit evening close to the performers.
