Simona Iacovazzi is a 'perlera': she makes glass beads at the lamp (a torch, not a furnace) in her Dorsoduro workshop and turns them into jewellery. She came to Venice from Salento as a stone and papier-mâché restorer, learned lampworking and spent two years in a Murano furnace. The art of Venetian glass beads has been UNESCO intangible heritage since 2020; this is where you see it being made, not just sold.

Good to know
- Venezia da Vivere has described one-day 'perlera' sessions at her torch; ask whether she still runs them.
- Each necklace is a one-off; she also works with old glass rescued from furnaces.
