A man-made island about 20 km long and up to 250 m wide, created between 1972 and 1988 when the Neue Donau flood-relief channel was dug alongside the river. It became the city's free summer playground: gravel beaches, natural swimming spots, cycling and skating paths.

- Families should head for the 250 m family beach with water no deeper than 1 m, or the free 5,000 m2 water playground.
- U1 and U6 stop right on the island, a few minutes from the centre.
