A 150-year-old district market of about 50 stalls that went from near-demolition to one of Vienna's liveliest food corners, run almost entirely by individual owners rather than chains. Locals come for the Friday and Saturday farmers' market, then sit down at the market eateries; visitors rarely make it this far out on the U4/U6.

Good to know
- Friday and Saturday are the farmers' market days and the best time for vegetables (Stadt Wien).
- Wien Tourismus singles out Wirtschaft am Markt (the first market restaurant with a toque), Hüftgold, billed as probably the smallest Konditorei in Vienna, Anna's cheese and sausage counter, and the wood-fired pide at Fladen Laden Furat.
- The northern end has a permanent flea market and a phone box turned into a public bookcase.
