Luigi Canonica's Napoleonic amphitheatre, modelled on Rome's Circus Maximus and opened in 1807 in Napoleon's presence. It was flooded for mock naval battles and frozen for skating; Marcello Fiasconaro set the 800 m world record here in 1973.
