Inside the fortress walls: the medieval castle begun by Håkon V around 1299, rebuilt as a Renaissance palace by Christian IV. You walk through royal halls still used by the government for banquets, the castle church, the crypt and the Royal Mausoleum, where members of the Norwegian royal family rest behind a wrought-iron gate.
