Střešovice and Břevnov: villas, trams and a monastery

The garden suburbs west of the Castle, where Prague's interwar elite built: the tram depot that is now the transport museum, the Ořechovka garden city with its plane-tree avenue, Adolf Loos's Villa Müller (reopened with a new tour), Otto Rothmayer's villa in the garden Josef Sudek photographed, then Břevnov Monastery and the star-shaped Hvězda summer palace.

    Public Transport Museum (Střešovice depot)

    Ořechovka garden city

Reopened after more than a year and a half with a new tour route that includes rooms never shown before.     Architect Otto Rothmayer's own house (1928-1929) at U Páté baterie 50, with the garden Josef Sudek photographed many times; restored to its late-1950s state; in the Iconic Houses network.     Břevnov Monastery

    Down the hill to Břevnov Monastery (stored place; see its entry for hours). 30 min.

    The first Benedictine monastery for men in Bohemia, founded by St. Adalbert in 993. It also has the country's oldest brewing tradition, and its brewery still makes beer.
