Ekeberg and Gamlebyen: Munch's Scream view, the sculpture park and medieval Oslo

Take the tram up Kongsveien to Ekebergparken, walk the wooded slope to the viewpoint where Munch most likely set The Scream, then go down into Gamlebyen, the site of the medieval town, where the ruins of St. Hallvard's cathedral, the bishop's castle and St. Mary's church lie in parks between railway lines. The park is free and open around the clock.

Best time: Late afternoon into sunset for the view over the fjord; the museum and shop are open Wed-Sun 11:00-16:00
