Beethoven moved dozens of times in Vienna but lived longest here, on and off for eight years, working on 'Fidelio', the 5th and 6th symphonies and 'Für Elise'. The house stands on a surviving piece of the 16th-century city wall; the cobbles and Biedermeier houses of the Mölker Bastei have barely changed since.
